Our roots run deep. Take a minute and read a page from our family business history.
1936
- George and Marian Boyer answer a newspaper ad seeking a distributor of Kendall Oil – and Boyer Petroleum Company officially incorporates on May 1st.
1950
- The folks at Boyer Petroleum purchase their own warehouse and office – an old coal yard at 101 East 5th Street in Des Moines – and make it their “home” for the next 55 years.
1964
- Art and Ruth “Pete” Boyer return from Norman, Oklahoma, to join the company business. They buy the house in Des Moines where they still reside today.
1970
- Boyer Petroleum’s lubricants business continues to faithfully serve the auto, fleet and construction industries.
1974
- Art Boyer keeps the day-to-day business operations running smoothly as company President.
1984
- Art partners with his nephew, Doug Rozendaal, purchases Goplerud Lubricants and establishes the Petro Blend brand and begins marketing the product line.
- Company begins distributing Baldwin Filters and continues to carry their products to the present day.
- Boyer expands selection of automobile and heavy-duty filters by acquiring Chuck Smith Distribution in Marshalltown and Direct Filter in Des Moines.
1989
- Boyer Petroleum begins working with Mopar Bulk Oil to provide exclusive service to Chrysler – Dodge – Jeep dealers, fulfilling their bulk oil needs.
1990
- Art’s son, David, graduates from college and begins his full-time career with the family business.
1993
- Doug Rozendaal buys out Art’s share of Petro Blend; however, a close relationship between the companies continues today.
1997
- Major growth begins with strategic business decision to distribute Mobil Oil and enter the industrial market.
- Mobil contract broadens Boyer marketplace by inclusion of OE supplier relationship with Goodwrench, Mercedes, Honda Toyota, and Detroit Diesel.
2005
- Boyer Petroleum forms strategic alignments with Exxon Mobil Corporation and ConocoPhillips.
- Company moves from the 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse where they’ve done business since 1950 to an expanded 40,000 sq. ft. facility at 1817 Hull Avenue.
2011
- Boyer Petroleum will celebrate 75 years of being family-owned and providing quality products and quintessential service to customers throughout Iowa.
